On Thursday August 29th, Broadway Actress, Nia Holloway surprised the 1st grade girls class at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School for the 2nd Annual Saving Our Daughters & MyCom Back to School Giveaway. The school partnership at the school was introduced last year, by Kasey T. Morgan, Network Director of MyCom. Nia is currently playing the role of ‘Nala’ in the amazing Disney’s “The Lion King” at the KeyBank State Theatre since August through September 1st  and wanted to take time to see the girls before her show that evening.

In attendance was Mayor Blackwell, who is an advocate and mentor for Saving Our Daughters and kicked off the event by introducing the program to the girls and thanking Ms. Nia for visiting the girls. Nia spoke to the girls on being proud of who they are and never giving up on their dreams. She also had the girls tell her who they want to be when they grow up and finished with singing a portion of “Hakuna Matata” from “The Lion King”.  After the girls received beautiful Disney’s The Lion King tote bags filled will back to school art goodies for the girls.

Also in support of the giveaway was Steve Haynie, Branch Manager of Maple Heights Library, Kyra Nay, Branch Services Youth Supervisor at Maple and Stephanie Provenzale, Teen Librarian at Garfield.

Principal Besteder stated “Nia Holloway’s beauty shines both inside and outside. The girls at Abraham Lincoln School were captivated by Nia’s beauty and charm. Nia’s message to the girls about following their dreams and giving back to their community was inspiring. The girls were actively engaged from start to finish. They really enjoyed the photo shoot and the autographs. This was truly an amazing experience for our 1st grade girls that they will remember for a lifetime.”
