April 2, 2019Youth in Action » Tremont Youth Council College Tour

During the CSMD Spring Break, the MyCom Merrick House Youth Council spent their time visiting Historical Black Colleges and Universities on the east coast with Momentous Mentoring. The group visited 9 colleges and universities over a 5 day period.  The group toured each campus, had the opportunity to speak with admissions and current students; as well as, have a meal at campus.

Tuesday, the group visited Hampton University in Hampton Virginia.  Youth enjoyed the view of the Atlantic Ocean while exploring the campus.  This was a highlight from this campus visit, according to Enaena Cornelius, because it [the Atlantic Ocean] added to the beauty and atmosphere of the university.

The other schools included Howard University, North Carolina A&T, Winton Salem State University, Clark Atlanta University, Spellman, MoreHouse, Tennessee State University, and Fisk University.  Michae Shoody was especially excited to visit Spellman in Atlanta.  Michae’s goal is to attend the Spellman music program next year.  After visiting Morehouse College, Rafael Strozier stated that he felt more enthusiastic about college and stated his intent to attend Morehouse in the fall.

Gratitude goes to Momentous Mentoring for allowing the Youth Council to participate on the tour.  The youth are already talking about Spring Break 2020.
