Real change affecting the lives of kids and teens cannot happen without leadership from youth.
Youth Engagement is the meaningful participation and sustained involvement of young people in shared decision-making about matters which affect their lives and the lives of those in their community. Youth engagement and youth voice is core to our work. Youth are involved in youth councils at the neighborhood level and are at the table as neighborhood build their individual Neighborhood Youth Development Plan. Network-wide youth leadership opportunities are offered through training and exposure activities.
MyCom has taken special care that there are MANY ways to gather input from the young people and to actively involve them in all aspects of this movement.
Out of School Time is a supervised program that children & young adults regularly attend when school is not in session. Young people who stay for after-school programming spend a large part of their waking hours on the school campus. OST programs provide youths with safety and supervision.
MyCom will enact our mission with race and equality at the forefront of our work as we always have. We will use our thought-leadership, funding, advocacy, and network to redesign service delivery. Together we will rethink infrastructure and create solutions that eliminate access to healthcare, cyclical poverty, access to quality education, housing stability, and other barriers that have impacted black lives.
