How you were involved in MyCom – I participated in one summer program with St. Clair Superior MyCom and was active in fundraisers for the youth center.
High School – Horizon Science Academy
College – The University of Akron
Graduation Year – I expect to graduate in 2022
What was a lesson you learned while in MyCom that has helped you in life?
A lesson I learned from MyCom is that no matter what household someone is from or hardship someone is going through, having a get together to help the community always puts a smile on anyone’s face and warmth in their heart.
What is a piece of advice you would give to MyCom youth today?
Learn as many things about your community that you can and help others as much as possible because later down the road they will return the favor and help when you need it the most, life is about all the people you know.
Have you continued to be connected to MyCom and in what capacity?
I don’t contribute to MyCom much any more since I have moved away from the neighborhood and am full time in the National Guard. I do come back and help with special projects or events if I’m asked.
What do you hope to be doing in 2-3 years?
In 2-3 years I will still be doing what I am doing now; taking class at the University of Akron and working full time in the National Guard as a military vehicle mechanic.
MyCom will enact our mission with race and equality at the forefront of our work as we always have. We will use our thought-leadership, funding, advocacy, and network to redesign service delivery. Together we will rethink infrastructure and create solutions that eliminate access to healthcare, cyclical poverty, access to quality education, housing stability, and other barriers that have impacted black lives.
