After watching three older siblings active in programs at the Shaker Heights Youth Center, Marquane Folson was already a familiar face when he joined the MyCom Youth Council, Making Our Own Space (MOOS) Program, the Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U.) Summer Jobs Program, and P.E.E.R.S. while a student at Shaker Heights High School.
At Shaker Heights High School, Folson was a high performing student as well as a dedicated member of the Raider Marching Band. With the help of family and friends, along with band boosters and fundraising efforts, he was able to take the band’s trip to France during the 2023 spring break.
MyCom will enact our mission with race and equality at the forefront of our work as we always have. We will use our thought-leadership, funding, advocacy, and network to redesign service delivery. Together we will rethink infrastructure and create solutions that eliminate access to healthcare, cyclical poverty, access to quality education, housing stability, and other barriers that have impacted black lives.
