Mr. Copeland is Chief of Staff at MyCom, a Cleveland youth development network with a mission to engage children and young adults in opportunities to unlock their potential.
MyCom was founded to bridge gaps in supporting Cleveland’s youth, working collaboratively with city and county government, schools, family and youth-focused agencies, and philanthropic leaders. Copeland was named Chief of Staff in March 2023.
“I wanted to be in a position to elevate our youth and give them access and exposure to things they haven’t experienced so they can become successful in whatever they choose to do in life,” Copeland said.
Copeland credits family and fellow MyCom staff for guiding his career in servant leadership.
“I would be remiss if I didn’t pay tribute to all the shoulders that I stood on to get this honor. It truly takes a village, and I am grateful for all the people in my corner,” he said.
“My wife, parents, siblings, grandparents, Chief Strategy Officer Kasey Morgan, and many other friends, colleagues, mentors, and family members are the true inspiration in pursuing community leadership! Watching what they do daily has helped me develop the skills to become a successful leader.”
Recently, Copeland and his MyCom staff were selected by the Wallace Foundation for a funding grant to study and strengthen partnerships addressing the needs of adolescents who face barriers to participation in afterschool and summer programs.
“I am now motivated more than ever to continue the path of servant leadership in our community by ensuring that our youth have every chance to be successful and transition into productive adults,” Copeland said, “I am truly blessed to be in this position! I am grateful to God for all he has done and continues to do. Thank you so much for this acknowledgment; this is only the beginning.”
MyCom will enact our mission with race and equality at the forefront of our work as we always have. We will use our thought-leadership, funding, advocacy, and network to redesign service delivery. Together we will rethink infrastructure and create solutions that eliminate access to healthcare, cyclical poverty, access to quality education, housing stability, and other barriers that have impacted black lives.
