Richmond Heights, Ohio. MyCom and the city of Richmond Heights are announcing their inclusion as a MyCom Community to create, collaborate, and build positive youth development for their children and young adults.
The city of Richmond Heights, under the leadership of the Honorable Mayor Kim A. Thomas, has been a long-standing partner within the MyCom network over the last three years, starting with their engagement as hosts for Academic Learning Pods during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
“Working with the city of Richmond Heights during the COVID-19 Pandemic identified for me their commitment to the children and young adults in their community and a shared mission for their wellbeing,” said Kasey Morgan, MyCom’s Chief Strategy Officer.
Studies have also shown that cross-sector partnerships, which include public and private organizations working in education, youth development, and community health services, can help expand learning and enrichment opportunities for young people who most need them.
“Together with Mayor Thomas, we’re crafting experiences that speak directly to the heart of our youth. By diving into the arts, we discover our voices and amplify our community's collective power and spirit. We’re more than just programs; we’re a movement,” said Crystal M.C. Davis, Founder of the Thornton Buckeye Group, LLC.
To kick off the partnership, MyCom, the city of Richmond Heights, and our network partner, Saving Our Daughters, will introduce a new program, Behind the Scenes in Careers of Theatre, Film, and Television, for young women to educate them about scriptwriting and production. The program focuses on script writing, emphasizing writing and literacy.
“One of the top careers our young women always choose is 'actress' when looking for expanded learning opportunities. As a positive youth development option, we selected this program, led by Television and Film Actors, to discuss the alternative careers in this industry that are often equally, if not more lucrative,” said Michael Copeland, MyCom’s Chief of Staff.
MyCom will be collaborating with MyCom Network Partner, Saving Our Daughters, and the Broadway production of The Wiz. On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, Nichelle Lewis, who plays Dorothy in the Broadway production of The Wiz, will introduce the program to the young women who sign up to participate.
Participating students will also attend the Broadway Play ‘The Wiz’ at Playhouse Square.
MyCom will enact our mission with race and equality at the forefront of our work as we always have. We will use our thought-leadership, funding, advocacy, and network to redesign service delivery. Together we will rethink infrastructure and create solutions that eliminate access to healthcare, cyclical poverty, access to quality education, housing stability, and other barriers that have impacted black lives.
