MyCom with our partners, the Cleveland Cavaliers provided 19 youth an opportunity to attend Dononvan Mitchell's Basketball Camp "MyWay 45" on May 27 and 28, 2023 at John F. Kennedy High School. Youth were engaged from MyCom program partners Ward Wide Education and Young Men Growing.
Ward Wide Education & Young Men Growing are two of MyCom’s network partners out of the 13 regions and over 250 program partners across Greater Cleveland.
Both programs works with youth who are underserved and underskilled to help them overcome barriers to success using a variety of strategies such as leadership develpment, training, mentorship, and programming.
The camp is held to build "better players, better people" and included instruction firsthand from NBA All-Star Donovan Mitchell. Skill building sessions included demonstrations from Donovan and were designed to help improve fundamentals of the game through drills and practice sessions.Following drills and practice, players had an opportunity to compete on age-based teams improving their ability to contribute to a team, while having fun getting to know other players.
The unique, positive approach to coaching young athletes is designed to help players build character—a key ingredient for success on and off the court.
MyCom and the Cleveland Cavaliers began a year-long partnership began in April 2023 to help support positive youth development through the game of basketball.
MyCom and the Cleveland Cavaliers kicked-off their partnership at the April 2, 2023 game against the Indiana Pacers with the Cavs overcoming the Pacers 115-105. But the real winners were all of our MyCom youth who attended for free and cheered on Donovan and the Cavs.
Over the next year, MyCom and the Cleveland Cavaliers will embark on events designed to promote character growth, positive opportunities in their community, and avenues to success.
MyCom will enact our mission with race and equality at the forefront of our work as we always have. We will use our thought-leadership, funding, advocacy, and network to redesign service delivery. Together we will rethink infrastructure and create solutions that eliminate access to healthcare, cyclical poverty, access to quality education, housing stability, and other barriers that have impacted black lives.
